FAQ - Daily Teachings App (Android)

How do I install the Daily Teachings app?
If you have bought the Daily Teachings App using the Play Store function of your phone or tablet, the app will download and install automatically. If you have bought the app from the Google Play Store on a separate device or computer but on the same Google account, you won’t need to buy the app again – you simply need to select “reinstall” and it will download onto your phone/tablet.

I have installed the app, but I cannot see the icon.
First of all, click on the App drawer button (white square with grey dots) in the dock of your home screen and check through the app icons on the front page. You should also check inside any folders containing multiple apps. If the icon for this app is not on this page, swipe right-to-left to check other pages. If you cannot find the app icon on any of these pages, return to your home screen and swipe right-to-left to see if the icon is sitting on any of these secondary home pages. Again, check inside any folders containing multiple apps. If you still can’t find the icon, return to the Play Store and search for the app. When you select the app within the Play Store, you will see install, uninstall or play buttons – if the app has not installed correctly or has inadvertently been deleted, you need to select install once more. You can also select the play button if the app is already loaded on your device and it will launch the app.

I accidentally deleted the app off my device, how do I restore it?
On your phone or tablet, go to the Google Play Store home page and tap on the icon with three horizontal lines which is located in the top left corner. Next, click on “My apps & games”. Next, select the “All” option. Here, you will find a list of all the apps that were pre-loaded or that you have downloaded free or purchased, whether or not these apps are still on your device. Scroll down the list to find the Daily Teachings. The tab on the right will indicate that you have purchased the app previously so you can simply select it to re-install.

What languages are supported by this app?
Available options for the languages displayed within the app include English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Hindi, Chinese, and Korean.

How do I change the language displayed on the app?
The language is automatically set according to the Language setting you have chosen under General Management / Language and Input in the Settings menu of your device. If you wish to change the language to one of the supported languages listed above, you can choose to change the language setting of your device. Alternately, you can access the Settings menu within the app, select Language, and then manually select from the available languages.

How do I change the starting date?
The starting calendar date (Day 1) is set based on the install date of the app. To reset the starting date of Daily Teachings, go to the app’s Settings (which is the little wheel cog located in the footer of the app). In the middle of the Settings screen, beneath the installed date, you will find a button labeled “Change Calendar Start Date.” Click on that button and set the date to today’s date if you wish to return to Day 1, or any other date to continue from the day of your choice. Click on the red Set button to save this new starting date.

How do I get more Daily Teachings passages?
You can choose to purchase a further year of Daily Teachings via the SETTINGS menu within the app. Available in English only.

How do I begin the new Daily Teachings passages that I bought?
The Daily Teachings app is designed to roll over to the new year of teachings once the current year is finished. You can tell how far into the year you are by checking the Day number in the right-hand column of today’s message. Once that number reaches 365, the next day will be the first day of the new year’s Teachings. If you wish to move ahead to the new year’s teachings immediately, you need to adjust the starting date of the app. Open up Settings, which is the little wheel cog appearing bottom right in the footer of the app. In the middle of the Settings screen, there is an app install date. Beneath the install date, you will find a button labeled “Change Calendar Start Date.” Click on that button and set the date to yesterday’s date (whatever day you are doing this, just make it the month and day that is yesterday to you), and then the year to last year. After that, click on the red Set button to save this new starting date. Now click on the back arrow to take you back into the Teachings, where you will see a brand new teaching, and the day in the bottom right column will read Day 366. Your Daily Teachings should continue on with a new year’s worth for the next 365 days.

How do I get updates for the app?
Updates will be posted on the Google Play Store and will be updated on your device via the Auto-update function according to your device settings. Alternately, you can update manually within the Play Store once you log in on your device. From the Play Store home screen, select the icon with three horizontal lines, which is located in the top left corner. Next, click on “My apps & games”. Here you will find a list of all apps installed on your device. Scroll down to find the Daily Teachings. On the right-hand side, you will see a button reading either “INSTALLED” or “UPDATE”. The INSTALLED button indicates that there is no new update available. The UPDATE button will indicate that there is an update available. Click on the button and the updated version will download to your device.

How do I gift the Daily Teachings app to a friend?
Currently, the Google Play Store does not offer a way to directly gift an app from one Google account to another outside the USA. The only way to gift apps on Android devices outside the USA is to purchase a gift card and allow the recipient to make their own choice of app or other digital content.

Within the USA, the process to gift an app from one Google account to another is as follows: 1. Open the Google Play Store. 2. Tap on the Menu icon, which is located on the upper left corner. 3. Tap on “Send Gift” and follow the onscreen instructions.

I bought the original Android version of Daily Teachings. How do I update to v3?
Buyers of Daily Teachings v1.0 and 2.0 cannot automatically update to v3.0 and beyond due to technical issues outside of our control. However, if you still wish to upgrade, please contact us by email at androidteachings@thesecret.tv and remember to provide the email address you use to log in to Google Play to make purchases. We will then do our best to provide you with an opportunity to update to the most recent version of the app.

How do I navigate through the days?
Flick left or right on the screen to navigate forwards/backwards through the days of Teachings.

How do I view text that is longer than the screen?
Swipe the screen up and down to scroll down pages that are longer than one screen.

How do I view and hide the toolbar / menus?
A single tap on screen shows the toolbar menu in the footer of the screen. A single tap on screen anywhere outside the toolbar area with the toolbar visible will hide the toolbar.

How do I access the app settings?
Single-tap the screen to reveal the toolbar menu in the footer. In the bottom-right corner of the toolbar is a gears icon. Tap on this to access the Settings page.

How do I change the text size?
The default display size can be set via the Settings page under the Text Size tab. There are two settings, small (default) and large.

How do I view a random Teaching?
With Shake Randomizer turned On in Settings, simply shake your device while viewing a Daily Teachings passage and you will be taken to another, random day.

How do I turn off shake randomization?
You can disable Shake Randomizer via the Settings menu.

How do I change the language displayed throughout the app?

How do I return to the current day?
Tap on the HOME icon on the toolbar (footer) menu to return to the current day.

Can I share a Daily Teachings passage?
Yes. You can share a passage on email and social media via the SHARE menu, second from the left in the toolbar.

How do I email a friend a Teachings passage?
You can email the currently viewed Daily Teaching passage via the SHARE function of the Toolbar menu, either as a screen graphic (Email this Teaching), or as plain text.

Can I post a Daily Teachings passage to Twitter or Facebook?
You can share the full-screen graphic as a Twitter or Facebook image via the Share menu (second from the left in the toolbar) and then click on Share at the top of the dropdown menu. You will be offered a choice of social media platforms, mail or message.

To post as text only (not the full-screen graphic), unfortunately, we are no longer able to offer this service directly as Facebook does not permit plain text from an app to be automatically pasted into your wall as a post. However, as a workaround, you can use the Email as Plain Text function, and either email to yourself or use the text in the mail window to cut and paste the passage into your wall or as a post/tweet, using the cut’n’paste feature. This will work for Facebook, although many of the Daily Teachings messages exceed the character limit for Twitter.

Why can’t I share a Daily Teachings passage on Facebook anymore?
The Daily Teachings app has been designed to allow you to share a teaching on your Facebook status. Periodically, Facebook and other social media platforms alter the way their interface works with external applications and this can have the effect of disconnecting older versions of apps from their platform. For example, Facebook no longer permits plain text from an app to be pasted into your wall as a post. You can, however, post full-screen graphic images from an app. Check to see if there is an update available for Daily Teachings as this may allow you to share with Facebook as intended.

How do I search for a keyword?
You can search for a keyword in any of the available Daily Teachings passages using the Search function, located in the centre of the Toolbar menu.

How do I bookmark a favorite Teaching?
You can bookmark the currently displayed Daily Teaching passage via the Bookmarks function on the Toolbar menu. Select Bookmark Current from the pop-up menu, then enter a comment and press the red Save button. If no comment is added, it will be left blank.

How do I view my bookmarks?
You can access saved Daily Teachings via the Bookmarks function on the Toolbar menu. Select View Bookmarks from the pop-up menu, and you will be presented with a list of bookmarked passages. Tap on the desired passage to view.

How do I edit/delete bookmarks?
To edit/delete a bookmark, go to the VIEW BOOKMARKS option in the BOOKMARKS menu. From there, select EDIT in the bottom-left corner. To delete a bookmark, tap on the red symbol on the left of the passage you wish to delete. This brings up two red boxes in the footer. To delete the bookmarked teaching, simply tap on the delete box on the right. To edit the comments, tap on the edit box on the left and make your desired change.

How do I access The Secret web page?
To access the web page, go to the SHARE menu and click on the Visit www.thesecret.tv button. To access the web, you need to be in range of a cellular data network, or in a wireless network hotspot that you have access to and have wireless activated on your device.

How do I set an alert to remind me to view my Daily Teachings?
You can set an alert to remind you to read Daily Teachings via the Settings page, under Set Daily Teachings Alerts. You can schedule either a single set time per day, or you can select a random alert during a specified range of times.

How do I cancel an alert?
Alert settings are canceled via the Settings page in the Toolbar, under Set Daily Teachings Alerts.

How do I change the scheduled or random alert sound?
There is currently only one alert sound available.

How do I change the display language?
The display language defaults to the language set within the device’s settings. The language can be changed via the SETTINGS page. Daily Teachings is currently available in English, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean.

How do I view the copyright information?
A full copyright disclaimer can be found via the Settings page, under the Visit Legal / Copyright Info tab.

How do I change the starting date?

When my year of Daily Teachings is complete, do I have to pay to keep using the app?
No. At the end of the year, the Daily Teachings will automatically restart from Day 1. You can also manually restart your Daily Teachings from Day 1 and repeat the year by resetting your starting calendar date. The default starting calendar date (Day 1) is based on the install date of the app. To reset the starting date of Daily Teachings, simply go to Settings in the Toolbar and select Change Calendar Start Date. Then change the date to the current day and click the red Set button below. Your year of Teachings will start over. You can do this indefinitely.

Is the Daily Teachings app a subscription service?
No, it is not a subscription service. You do not have to pay periodically to keep using this App. You can start your year over as many times as you like as the app and the Teachings are yours to use indefinitely.

How do I learn more about The Secret and its principles?
The Secret is available as a book or DVD via The Secret website. Alternatively, a number of useful tools and inspirational stories of lives transformed through living the secret can be found on the website. You can also subscribe to The Secret Scrolls, periodic email messages from Rhonda Byrne, and News From The Secret team.
