FAQ - Daily Teachings App (iPhone)

How do I install the Daily Teachings app?
If you have bought the Daily Teachings App using the App Store function of your iPhone, the app will download and install automatically. If you have bought the app from the iTunes Store on your Mac/PC, you will need to sign in on your iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch using the same Apple ID used for the purchase and then download the app through the App Store.

I have installed the app, but I cannot see the icon.
Check that the icon is not on another page of your home-screen, often the device can scatter new apps across multiple home screens.

I accidentally deleted the app off my iPhone, how do I restore it?
Sign in to the App Store on your device using the Apple ID you used to purchase the app, then search for The Secret Daily Teachings, and you should be able to re-download the app free of charge. The App Store should recognise that you have already purchased the app.

What languages are supported by this app?
Available options for the languages displayed within the app include English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Hindi, Chinese, and Korean.

How do I change the language displayed within the app?
The language is automatically set according to the iPhone/iPad Language setting you have chosen under Language & Region in the Settings menu of your device. If you wish to change the language to one of the supported languages listed above, you can choose to change the language setting of your device. Alternately, you can access the Settings menu within the app, select Language, and then manually select from the available languages.

How do I change the starting date?
The starting calendar date (Day 1) is set based on the install date of the app. To reset the starting date of Daily Teachings, go to the app’s Settings (which is the little wheel cog located in the footer of the app). In the middle of the Settings screen, beneath the install date, you will find a button labelled “Change Calendar Start Date.” Click on that button and set the date to today’s date if you wish to return to Day 1, or any other date to continue from the day of your choice. Click on the blue Back in the top left of screen and then the blue Done at top right to save this new starting date.

How do I get more Daily Teachings passages?
You can choose to purchase a further year of Daily Teachings via the SETTINGS menu within the app. The second year of Teachings is available in English only.

How do I begin the new Daily Teachings passages that I bought?
The Daily Teachings app is designed to roll over to the new year of teachings once the current year is finished. You can tell how far into the year you are by checking the Day number in the box at the top right of screen on any Teaching page. Once that number reaches 365, the next day will be the first day of the new year’s Teachings. If you wish to move ahead to the new year’s teachings immediately, you need to adjust the starting date of the app. Open up Settings, which is the little wheel cog appearing bottom right in the footer of the app. In the middle of the Settings screen, there is an app install date. Beneath the install date, you will find a button labeled “Change Calendar Start Date.” Click on that button and set the date to yesterday’s date (whatever day you are doing this, just make it the month and day that is yesterday to you), and then the year to last year. After that, click “Back” up in the top left corner, and then click “Done” in the top right corner. This should take you back into the Teachings, but now you will see a brand new teaching, and the day in the top right box will read Day 366. Your Daily Teachings should continue on with a new year’s worth for the next 365 days.

How do I restore my second year Daily Teachings passages after a reboot or update?
If your second year of Daily Teachings is no longer available after a reboot of your device or an update of the app, you can easily restore your purchase without having to pay a second time. Simply go to Settings and click the Add More Teachings button. The App Store purchase screen will appear asking you to approve the purchase. Click to pay (don’t worry, you won’t have to pay). Once you accept, a notification will pop up stating: “You’ve already purchased this. Would you like to get it again for free?” Press Ok. Another notification will pop up to say that your purchase was successful. You will not have been charged for this. Neither Apple nor The Secret can charge for a product twice.

How do I get updates for the app?
Updates will be posted on the App Store, and can be updated via the Updates function within the App Store once you log in on your iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch. A small red badge on the App Store icon on your home screen will indicate when there are updates available.

How do I gift the Daily Teachings app to a friend?
You can gift an app to a friend when you visit the iTunes store on your computer. Simply locate the Daily Teachings app and click the downward arrow next to the price and select Gift This App in the pop-up menu. Then simply fill in the email address of your intended recipient and write a message if you wish. You can also send gift certificates and vouchers on the iTunes store via the Buy iTunes Gift Cards section, and allow your recipient to select the app or product of his or her choosing.

How do I navigate through the days?
Flick left or right on the screen to navigate forwards/backwards through the days of Teachings. If the page bounces, it indicates you have reached the start/end of Teachings.

How do I view text that is longer than the screen?
Swipe the screen up and down to scroll down pages that are longer than one screen.

How do I return to the current day?
Double-tap on the screen or use the HOME icon on the toolbar menu.

How do I access the App Settings?
Single-tap the screen to reveal the toolbar menu. In the bottom-right corner of the toolbar is a gears icon. Tap on this to access the SETTINGS page.

How do I view and hide menus?
A single tap on screen shows the toolbar menu. A single tap with the toolbar visible will hide the toolbar.

How do I change the text size?
The default display size can be set via the SETTINGS page. There are two settings, small (default) and large.

How do I view a random Teaching?
Simply shake your iPhone when viewing a Daily Teachings passage to go to a random day. (NB. You may need to confirm that Shake Randomiser is enabled on the SETTINGS page.)

How do I turn off Shake Randomizer?
You can disable Shake Randomizer via the Settings menu.

How do I change the language displayed throughout the app?

How do I change the font displayed throughout the app?
The default font displayed within the app is Palatino. You can change the font by opening the Settings menu within the app, selecting Font, and then manually selecting from the available fonts. Available options for the fonts used within the app include Avenir, Cochin, Futura, Georgia, Helvetica, Hoefler, Palatino, and Verdana. Font choices are not available in Asian languages.

Can I share a Daily Teachings passage?
Yes. You can share a passage via the SHARE menu, second from the left in the toolbar. Alternately you can click on the red share button at the bottom right of screen on any Teaching page.

How do I email a friend a Teachings passage?
You can email the currently viewed Daily Teaching passage via the SHARE function of the Toolbar menu, either as a screen graphic (Email this Teaching), or as plain text.

Can I post a Daily Teachings passage to Twitter or Facebook?
You can share the full-screen graphic as a Twitter or Facebook image via the Share menu (second from the left in the toolbar) and then click on Share at the top of the dropdown menu. You will be offered a choice of social media platforms, mail or message.

To post as text only (not the full-screen graphic), unfortunately, we are no longer able to offer this service directly as Facebook does not permit plain text from an app to be automatically pasted into your wall as a post. However, as a workaround, you can use the EMAIL AS PLAIN TEXT function in the SHARE MENU, and either email to yourself or use the text in the mail window to cut’n’paste the passage into your wall or as a post/tweet. This will work for Facebook, although many of the Daily Teachings messages exceed the character limit for Twitter.

Why can’t I share a Daily Teachings passage on Facebook anymore?
The Daily Teachings app has been designed to allow you to share a teaching on your Facebook status. Periodically, Facebook and other social media platforms alter the way their interface works with external applications and this can have the effect of disconnecting older versions of apps from their platform. For example, Facebook no longer permits plain text from an app to be pasted into your wall as a post. You can, however, post full-screen graphic images from an app. Check to see if there is an update available for Daily Teachings as this may allow you to share with Facebook as intended.

How do I search for a keyword?
You can search for a keyword in any of the available Daily Teachings passages using the SEARCH function, in the centre of the Toolbar menu.

How do I bookmark a favorite Teaching?
You can bookmark the currently displayed Daily Teaching passage via the BOOKMARKS function on the Toolbar menu. Select BOOKMARK CURRENT from the pop-up menu, then enter a comment, and press SAVE. If no comment is added, it will be left blank. You can also bookmark a favourite Teaching by clicking on the gold star button on the bottom right of any Teaching page.

How do I view my bookmarks?
You can access saved Daily Teachings via the BOOKMARKS function on the Toolbar menu. When selected, you will be presented with a list of bookmarked passages. Tap on the desired passage to view.

How do I edit/delete bookmarks?
To edit/delete a bookmark, go to the VIEW BOOKMARKS option in the BOOKMARKS menu. From there, select EDIT in the top-right corner. To delete a bookmark, tap on the red symbol on the left of the passage you wish to delete, then select the DELETE button on the right. To edit the comments, tap on the arrow on the right, next to the passage you wish to edit, make your changes, and then press Save in the top-right.

How do I access the web page for The Secret?
To access the web page, go to the SHARE menu and click on the Visit www.thesecret.tv button. To access the web, you need to be in range of a cellular data network, or in a wireless network hotspot that you have access to and have wireless activated on your device.

How do I set an alert to remind me to view my Daily Teachings?
You can set an alert to remind you to read Daily Teachings via the SETTINGS page, under SET DAILY TEACHINGS ALERTS. You can set either a single set time per day or a random notification during a set time period.

How do I cancel an alert?
Alert settings are canceled via the SETTINGS page, under SET DAILY TEACHINGS ALERTS

I set an alert but it is not working. What can I do to fix this?
First, check if there is an update available for this app. Earlier versions of the app contained a slightly more complicated process to set alerts and this has been simplified in subsequent updates. Once you have updated. Try setting your alert via the SETTINGS page once again.

If you are unable to download an update and you are using an older version of the app (1.6 or earlier) on iPhone / iPad, try following these instructions: within the app, select the SETTINGS menu. Scroll down and select SET DAILY TEACHINGS ALERTS. Choose between SCHEDULED ALERTS or RANDOM ALERTS, slide the slider across to the green (on) position and choose your times. Now click on the blue SETTINGS tab top left of screen. Finally, click on the blue DONE tab top left of screen. The alarm times are not fully implemented until you have clicked the DONE tab to lock in your preferences.

How do I change the scheduled or random alert sound?
There is currently only one alert sound available and it depends upon the version of the app that you are using. On version 1.6 or earlier, this sound features a whispering voice. On version 1.7 or later, the alert sound is more of an alarm. If you want to change from the whispering voice alert sound, check to see if there is an update of the app available.

How do I change the display language?
The display language defaults to the language set within the device’s settings. The language can be changed via the SETTINGS page. Daily Teachings is currently available in English, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean.

How do I change the display font?
The display font defaults to Palatino. The font can be changed via the SETTINGS page. Fonts currently available include Avenir, Cochin, Futura, Georgia, Helvetica, Hoefler, Palatino, and Verdana. Alternate fonts are not available in Asian languages.

How do I view the copyright information?

The Daily Teachings app has just started crashing after I click on the icon to launch. How do I fix this?
This fault is occurring for some people on older Apple operating systems. If this is happening to you, we recommend you update your device to iOS 9.3 or later in order to successfully launch the app whenever you choose.

When my year of Daily Teachings is complete, do I have to pay to keep using the app?
No. At the end of the year, the Daily Teachings will automatically restart from Day 1. You can also manually restart your Daily Teachings from Day 1 and repeat the year by resetting your starting calendar date. The default starting calendar date (Day 1) is based on the install date of the app. To reset the starting date of Daily Teachings, simply go to Settings in the Toolbar and select Change Calendar Start Date. Then change the date to the current day and click the blue Back button top-left of screen and then the blue Done button top-right of screen. Your year of Teachings will start over. You can do this indefinitely.

Is the Daily Teachings app a subscription service?
No, it is not a subscription service. You do not have to pay periodically to keep using this App. You can start your year over or you can purchase an additional year. But the app and the Teachings are yours to use indefinitely.

How do I learn more about The Secret and its principles?
The Secret is available as a book or DVD via The Secret website. Alternatively, a number of useful tools and inspirational stories of lives transformed through living the secret can be found on the website. You can also subscribe to The Secret Scrolls, periodic email messages from Rhonda Byrne, and News From The Secret team.
