My Purpose.
Submitted by: Chris Janda
I have been studying my whole life on what my purpose is. This has lead me to many different types of work and a varied lifestyle. I have finally found what I was meant to do and I wish to share my story with you.
This is my first story I have released here and thank you for reading this.
“I truly believe that everything that we do and everyone that we meet is put in our path for a purpose. There are no accidents; we’re all teachers if we’re willing to pay attention to the lessons we learn, trust our positive instincts and not be afraid to take risks or wait for some miracle to come knocking at our door.” –Marla Gibbs
I am 34 years old and I was without a life’s purpose until now. For my entire life I have tried to realize what I want to achieve in life. I have performed a number of different jobs, I worked in a grocery store for 7 years, Wal-Mart for 3 years, waited tables for another 6 years, and recently I have been working in the computer industry for 3 years. All of these jobs have taught me many lessons and life skills and I would never trade that time for anything. However I have realized that this is not my purpose.
When I started working in computer software my first job was as a Customer Support Technician. I remember being so excited to move into the computer industry because it is what I went to college for and what I really wanted to do. While being on customer service wasn’t the optimal place to start it was foothold on where I wanted to be. Also with my computer knowledge from college and my customer service skills from years in retail and the restaurant industry I was a shoe-in for this type of work.
My first couple of months there I really enjoyed what I was doing. My clients for the most part were great. However as more time passed I began to resent my job. I realized that my skillset was much more than what I could do there. I began to become bitter and depressed because of my job.
I knew I could do more. I had watched the movie The Secret many years before because my dad owned it. I remember being inspired and intrigued by the law of attraction so I decided to see if Rhonda Byrne had released any other items during the interim from my first viewing. I then found the book The Magic and I proceed to follow this book’s examples and teachings.
Around this same time I was let go from my Customer Service Job due to attendance issues. I was devastated for about a week. From reading The Magic I realized that I should shoot for the stars with my job search. I visualized every day the type of job I wanted. I then polished up my resume and I started submitting it to every software development firm in Indianapolis, Indiana. For 3 months I was met by defeat, yet I persisted. Finally I decided that I just needed to get a job because I had a wife and daughter to support.
I relented in my pursuit of a dream job and proceed to apply for another customer service job. I was granted an interview and I came to find out that one of the positions they were seeking was a special software developer in the support industry. I was granted a second interview and then finally received the job. It was the exact kind of job I wanted and it came with a $10,000 pay increase from my other job!
I worked there for a year and a half continuing to study all of Rhonda Byrne’s teachings. I listened to The Power by Rhonda Byrne 5 times, all the way through due to a 45 minute one way commute. Then I branched out reading Bob Proctor, Mike Dooley, John Assaraf, and Joe Vitale. While watching a video seminar by Bob Proctor he stated his favorite inspirational book was Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. I decided to try this one as well. I then switched from The Power to listening to Napoleon Hill’s book in various versions.
After all of this studying something magical happened. I told my mom about my resume and she told my older brother who owns a full service ad agency. After reviewing my resume he offered me a job at twice the current salary I was receiving but the job was in Utah which was 1500 miles away. I took about a week to think about it and decided to move.
I am now the Technical Director for this company and I have expanded my knowledge and leadership skills immensely. However I am realizing that I truly enjoy being a leader more than working with software and programming.
Finally two months ago I was meditating and I found my purpose in life. I want to help people become the best versions of themselves. I want to inspire them just as I have been inspired to do great things. I have developed a plan of action to achieve this dream. I am now writing actively on a blog I created. I am then going to take this blog and compile it into a book and release it on Amazon. Finally I am going to leverage those items into sharing my message of hope and motivation to as many people as possible.
I know this is my true purpose because every time I think about this plan of action and bringing joy to so many people a tear of joy comes to my eyes.
I want to say thank you to everyone who inspired me and charted this course for me. Also I hope that my story helps you realize that no matter how many paths you take in life, always learn what you can and find yourself. You are a beautiful, blessed, and amazing being who can share themselves with the world. Make your dreams come true.
