I purchased the DVD of The Secret one year ago this month. I was literally at crossroads in my life, unsure of what to do next. I had been a steadily working actor for years, and had just finished a two year stint in a hit Broadway show. I had been performing since I was a kid, and found my passion waning. A director friend offered me a role in a show out of town, that I reluctantly took.

On the first day of rehearsal, I knew that this experience was going to be something special. Almost immediately I found myself in profound spiritual discussions with everyone in the whole group. We decided to create an inspiration board, and filled it with inspirational quotes and messages that seemed to be pouring out of us.

After hearing about The Secret from one of our castmates, we decided to all go out and buy a copy, make dinner, and watch it together. I was first stunned that all of theses people were receptive to the idea. We watched in pure silence and afterwards discussed it until the wee hours of the morning.

We were very comfortable sharing very intimate details of our lives with each other. It was the safest feeling environment that I had ever been in. I shared with the group that I would be leaving the business after the production closed, to try something new, and how unsure I felt because it was all that I knew. Someone posed the question, “Well what do you really want to do?” After a pause I replied, I want to work for an African American Arts organization in some capacity.

The whole experience turned out to be purely magical, as we made it a priority every day to nurture our spirits by applying the ideas of The Secret.

A month after the production closed, I got a call from the executive director of the largest African American arts organization in my hometown, asking me to come and teach a master class. One year later, I am now teaching full time at this organization (and two others), creating programming, and producing theater. I am happily celebrating my Secret 1 year Anniversary this month. I have an abundance of opportunities in front of me, and my life has been in a constant state of unfolding beauty!
