First Decide What You Want Then Let It Go.

In my line of work, the film industry, everyone goes from project to project. As a relatively new film crew member of around 3 years, I have little confidence or connections with people in the industry. I don’t have employment guaranteed once my current show ends.
I started out with an entry level job that involves a lot of physical work; lifting and being on your feet all day. I had my eye on a different department right when I started but I believed that the entry level job would help me get the experiences I needed to understand how the film set works.
At around the 2nd year, I got into the union and was confident with the entry level position and there was never a lack of work. One day, I decided that it was time to move on to the next position. I got onto a show through a friend and worked for 10 days in the new position. Everything was new and scary but I was blessed with a nice friend and colleague to walk me through everything.
After that show ended, I felt lost and stressed, not knowing when the next one would come. Every opportunity I saw I would put my name out there. After 2 weeks of trying, I got two interviews with projects that were short, about 20 days of work, and they both decided to go with someone else. I was so upset and I decided to clear my mind and to think about what I should do.
I thought of the process of the law of attraction. I believe that things happen for a reason. And I asked myself if I was ready to work on the next show. I decided that I probably would like some more days off and then put an alert on my phone for the date I would start working. Then I felt like my job was done there. I went on to enjoy my life. I read, I listened to music and sang along, and I took walks.
A couple of days later, I got a call from a head of a department asking if I was interested in having an interview with them. I had no idea what the show was but I immediately said yes. I remembered when I got the call I was paddle boarding with my boyfriend on the water. I was so excited! I had to wait for a few more days for the date confirmation. I had doubts about my lack of experience and my possible lack of skills but I decided, “Hey, I have done everything I can do. If this is what was prepped for me, then I will gratefully take it and do my best.” Basically, I was “letting it go.”
During the interview, I met half of the team through zoom and immediately fell in love with them. They told me I could potentially start next week but they still had a few more interviews to go. When they asked me if I had any questions, I did not even think but said “Oh, would you guys be in the office next week so we can meet in person on the first day?” So I had already believed that this was going to be my team!
I got the confirmation that I was to start work the next week!
But then, the most magical thing happened. Because of Covid, everyone needed to do a pre-work Covid test. The day of taking the test would be considered a work day. My supervisor called me the next day asking if I could make it to the testing window within an hour. I rushed over. I got the test done and my phone showed me a notification!
“July 27, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm Start Work”
When I set the alarm, the time was auto set so it was only an hour long. But this was the hour that I actually “worked” that day! Driving to the testing site then getting the test and coming back home, all within the hour.
I put out my intention, got my mind ready and it happened!
I realized why the previous interviews have failed. I had set out for a supportive team. I had set out to do a long project so I wouldn’t have to look for another one in a short period of time. I had set out for the morning commute to be relatively short.
This was the result:
– I got the job mainly because my supervisor on the last project is well connected and when they called for references, he told me I had done an amazing job during the 10 days I worked with them.
– This project is 9 months long!
– Our team is bigger than on other projects.
– Our team clicked right away and had been working well ever since. My supervisor even took us out over the holidays and bought us dinner and shots. Many laughs were shared over the table.
I want to share my story because I was talking to my supervisor yesterday about this and she commented on how amazing the law of attraction works. I just want everyone who is read my story to find the confidence and faith you need for anything you want in your life.
Here are my main points:
1. Understand what you want. If your heart is not ready, do not lie to yourself. Things will come to you when you get your mind ready.
2. Have faith.
3. Trust that every step of the way happens for a reason. Ultimately, everything is to prepare you for what you’re asking for.
The Secret has helped me so much in learning about how to use my mind to get what I want in life. This is the book I recommend that everyone read. I always go back to reading it again when I feel lost, and every single time I did, I would get a new perspective on things.
I am so grateful for everything that has happened. I still think about how it happened and it always brings a smile to my face. Thank you for everything!
