Traffic? What Traffic
Submitted by: Steven C.
San Diego, CaI am a 19 year old salesman, and entrpreneur who just received his wake-up call.
Last night I watched “The Secret” for what will be the first of many times. This morning as I left my house for traffic court, I realised I would be at least 10-15 minutes late. Normally this would cause me to drive aggressively and erratically trying to make up for lost time (hence the traffic court). But not today. As I was entering what is possibly the worst stretch of freeway to be on, heading north at 8 am, I had only two thoughts on my mind. First, I will beat this ticket. Secondly, traffic, what traffic? I saw a car traveling faster than I was in the slow lane as I was entering from the on ramp. I decided for no particular reason that this was the car that I would enter behind. Almost instantly there were approximately 30 feet of space behind them. Then the craziest thing happened.
I decided that I was not going to be held up in this traffic. Suddenly my lane, the #3, was traveling at 45 mph when the rest of the freeway was going less than 30. I decided to test the universe, and I changed lanes to the left into the #2 lane. Suddenly the #2 lane was traveling at apprx. 45 mph when all the others (including the #3 I was just in) were traveling at less than 30. It was incredible! I tested it one more time with exactly the same result.
When I arrived at the courthouse I was less than 5 minutes late, and the door opened to the courtroom precisely when I got there.
When the officer who had written my ticket arrived to testify against me, he admitted to the judge he had no recollection of the stop. When he said he had finally remembered me, he incorrectly described the incident and the make and model of my car. All I had to do was say that I wasn’t speeding on the day in question and the judge would’ve had to dismiss my case. But I was. I was speeding when I was pulled over.
So I told the truth and took the fine like a man.
What I’m going to pass up the power of the secret to dodge a $150 ticket? No Way!! That money is as good mine anyway. I’ll just attract more money my way and I’ll more than re-coup the cost of doing the right thing.
Coincidently, after the judge saw that I was willing to be honest with her, she bent the rules and authorized traffic school even though I’m ineligible so that the ticket never shows up on my DMV record.
