Domino of dreams…
Submitted by: Mikey Bustos
Toronto, CanadaI am a 26 year old male and was born a singer, and I have already sung for the whole world; the manifestation of my dream to sing for the whole world unfolds every day before my eyes.
I now realize I have always known The Secret, but it was largely unconscious, and today I bought “The Secret” the book and it completely unraveled my entire history. I have always been an optimist. There was always a brighter side and something to be happy about in life. For me the greatest thing to be happy about was my singing.
Basically, I have always felt I was born for a purpose, and that is to sing for the whole world and touch people with my voice. It’s just simply what I knew and felt in my bones. Every decision I made in life, regardless of how significant (e.g. what colour shirt to wear today) was all made with my dream to sing for the whole world deeply rooted in my mind (e.g. today if I wore this nicely pressed and attractive shirt, perhaps it may catch someone’s attention, and that person may be someone to take me closer to my dream… perhaps the CEO of a major music management label.
In the year 2003, that feeling of singing for millions was the strongest in me. I can’t explain why, but it was like all the days and hours and energies spent focusing on my dream to sing for the world was accumulating to the point where I could feel the pressure of an oncoming explosion, that I couldn’t really explain to anyone else except by saying simply, “You just don’t get it. I feel like something is going to happen. Greatness is coming my way and I am going to be a singer for lots and lots of people!” I told everyone around me. I told my family, co-workers at the bank I worked at, friends, my girlfriend…
In 2003, Canadian Idol, a reality tv show based on a nationwide search competition for singers/vocal performers began auditioning in Canada’s major cities. I joined, and from 15,000 auditioners, I made the first cut, the second, the third, was on television for the fourth (which acquired me a massive following), the firth, sixth, and seventh cut. When I reached the Top 11 finals, I was at that point a regular on a tv show viewed by 3.6 million people throughout Canada every week (that’s about a tenth of the country). I finally was voted into the 7th runner up spot. What an amazing thing that was. It changed my life. I had a mass of fans and music supporters that had each expressed their gratitude and appreciation for my singing, and I loved reading how my songs had touched their lives in different ways. The experience was truly magnificent and humbling, and completely satisfying as an artist and as someone who has always wanted to touch people through music!
After the show, it never occurred to me that in being voted into the 7th runner up spot that I had lost (because essentially if you look at it that way, yes, I did lose the competition by not placing first), but instead that I had won the 7th runner up spot. I recorded with BMG Canada a song for the Canadian Idol compilation album, which was released nationwide that year, and hit Gold status on the second day of release, debuting at #5 in its debut week. I hang that gold record plaque where I can see it often in my hallway.
I found myself (yes, literally found myself) in New York via a girl that randomly began chatting with me on Yahoo Chat online, who worked for a music label company, who eventually introduced me to a great producer who worked with names like Mariah Carey, Madonna, Destiny’s Child, and more.
From there through the years, more and more dreams began coming true for me. It seemed like success was falling right into my lap. I began touring Canada, USA, and Philippines performing at huge concerts and interesting events. I was able to travel for four years and vacation to Mexico. I’ve met so many people in my endeavors and have established great networks through my business life, non-business life, and travel.
I’ve opened for Gordon Lightfoot, a Canadian Legend (who wrote “If You Could Read My Mind Love”) last year, the Pussycat Dolls last year in Asia for their world tour (14,000 people), and my biggest dream of all, I opened for Christina Aguilera this summer in Asia for her Back to Basics World Tour (18,000).
It has been a succession of dreams realized for me over the past few years, and goodness is still coming to this day. Since concluding most of my intense touring this Fall to work on my next album, I’ve recently had desires to explore other avenues of entertainment and have been focusing a lot of mental work towards becoming an actor and model, and so I’d made the decision to set up meetings with people I knew who might be able to advise me, did my research, did the necessary work, did my networking (and by the way all of this was new to me and I was essentially a beginner in the world of acting/modeling), and low and behold, a few days ago in just two months of embarking on my acting/modeling journey, I was contacted by one of the biggest talent agents in Canada who has shown interest. I really would like to succeed in the world of acting, and because I’m now conscious of The Secret much more, I am sure it will come my way. I believe it so and the feeling is strong and comparable to that explosive feeling I had before my Canadian Idol success.
I see the acting goal as a way of attaining my ultimate goal of singing for the whole world. If I appear in a movie or a tv show, for example, perhaps it will cause others to have interest enough to check out my music.
In essence then, launching a domino effect of dreams is real, and I am living testament to that, and would like to share my story and music with the world, in hopes to change theirs.
Perhaps one of my favourite things to do which energizes me is reading my fanmail. That positive energy carries me through my mission to sing for the world and I understand now that it has accelerated my progress greatly.
Thank you! I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. I am so grateful for where I am today, and grateful to have had the opportunity to share my story with YOU, the star of your life!
🙂
