Playing Make Believe.
Submitted by: KK
Sonipat, Haryana, IndiaI am an Indian teen, a "different one", I believe. I used to be a self-hating, self-criticizing idiot, but The Secret changed my life completely. Now, life is good.
This was two years ago when I was in the 9th standard. Life was, simply put, hell. How disgusting I looked. How everyone around me saw me as the “weird one”. How much I used to cry when I looked at my photos. That stupid face. That weird body language. Those good looking, confident classmates only made matters worse. Then we had bullies.
I really like public speaking, but never got a position in 6 declamation contests I entered, which made me question the fraction of belief I had in myself.
My mom’s job had been withheld for 7 years, due to some official reasons, and she became depressed and very ill. No matter how much I tried to become a “better” guy, to make my life a little nicer, it seemed like it was just not “meant to be”. I lived in a pathetic house, around neighbors I despised, with almost no one to call a good friend. I had by this time, completely assumed that I was just meant to be a failure, no matter what I did in life. Negativity had me like a soul-sucking ghost. It seemed like I was in a pit with no stairs to climb out.
Fast forward to a year later. I was looking for some nice movies to watch on my cousin’s laptop. I saw a video named ‘The Secret’. After watching it I simply learned to play ‘make believe’. It was simple. The rest is history.
I got rid of all the negativity I had around me. I told my mom about The Secret and asked her to imagine doing her job daily. I started believing in myself and my abilities and my inner strength began to rise. I discovered what a good looking guy I was. I emanated confidence where ever I went.
I never thought about trying to “avoid bad photos”, instead I focused on “having good photos” clicked. I stopped feeding that leech of negativity, and it died. I would daily imagine good people around me and me laughing and smiling around them.
Today, was my last 11th standard exam. I scored 95% marks in standard examinations. My mom got her job in 2019 in a nearby city, and I live with her there now, in a beautiful house. I am the school declamation champion. “This is a different KK we are seeing”, remarked the judges, praising my body language. I love clicking my pictures now, it’s self-love!
I am very good friends with my crush, who had originally approached me! Gone are the days when I was the weird one, now I am friends with everyone around! I am the contender of getting the post of ‘Head Boy’ of my school this year, all due to my new found confidence. I live a happy life, I can finally say. All credit to The Secret!
Just saying “Thank you” would be a negligible way to express my gratitude towards Rhonda Byrne, it was due to her that I am everything out of nothing. Thanks for The Secret, I couldn’t thank anyone more.
