Me and the Romans

When I was 10, my family and I went on a vacation around Europe. We had been driving around for almost two weeks, and I was rather fed up with sitting in the backseat of the car for hours and days on end. So finally, one night I thought I might find a way to get my dad to stop and spend some time in a place nearby instead of racing through one country after another. I came up with this idea of convincing him to stop at this one town I saw on the map while we were driving through southern Germany. When he said “Why should we stop there?”, in a flash I just made up a story. “Well, it’s because there are some cool ruins there of an old Roman town. I have read about it at school.” After some talking back and forth he agreed, and we took a turn towards this town I knew nothing about, and I worried how I was going to explain that there were no Roman ruins there. As we stopped at the first hotel, it was night. We all went into the lobby, and I felt the hairs on my neck rise as I watched the whole lobby was filled with Roman-style interior. My jaw dropped, and I got scared. As my dad said “Wow son, you were right. I talked to the person behind the counter, and this is indeed an old Roman town with lots of ruins from when the Romans occupied this area. Lets go see it tomorrow.”
I still remember the feeling of walking up to our room, looking out the window, seein the silouette of an old Roman ruin on the other side of the river.
The law of attraction always works. Its easy to forget how, in our childhood, things like this happened all the time.
