It Is What We Dream

Have you heard that quote before? “It’s not what we wake up to, it’s what we dream”. I wish I knew who inspired this quote to give them proper credit. Several years ago at an arts and crafts fair, there was a booth with framed quotes and messages. Most of them were familiar like “Bless this House”… then I saw one that stood out, and struck me deep in my soul as I read it. In a carefully drawn calligraphy it read, “It’s not what we wake up to, it is what we dream”. I read the words over and over. I had lived, and was living, those very words. All my life was a constant struggle since I could remember. Fear, stress, and worry were members of my family. My only escape was to daydream. I would dream of what my life would be like when I was older. I would have a home that would be a safe peaceful haven for my children. I would have enough money to buy nice things and go on vacation and give my kids what they need and most of what they want. I would have a husband that loved me and would be good to me, and a good father to our children. All of these things, every single one has come to pass.
When I read “The Secret” book, about a week ago, I had no idea that my entire life I had been using these very principles. Now, with the book, I am inspired to set even higher goals, KNOWING THIS WORKS!
Six months ago, I was at a very low point in my life, personally and professionally. I hated my job: I felt used and disrespected by my coworkers and manager. I was very, very depressed and felt that most of this was “in my head”. Even on my worst days, I would find hope in “dreaming” of a different job. A job that I would be respected for my contributions, coworkers that were pleasant, and a manager that would help me grow. A job that I would love doing, and would love me back! One day, I was looking over job postings and I saw one that was perfect… I KNEW it was for me. I was so nervous I couldn’t type fast enough my information in to apply for the transfer. Many nurses applied for this job, and even though I knew it was mine, I still had feelings of, “What if I’m wrong?”. I would shoo those thoughts away and dream of going into work and what it would be like during my day there. Soon enough, the manager called and asked me if I would be interested in the position!
The job has been even more wonderful than I expected, and my “boss” is one of the most wonderful people I have ever got to know. I will never forget the day I told her how much I appreciated her choosing me…. that she didn’t realize how life changing this job has been for me.
I see how the “Secret” has worked in my life, and I am looking forward to soaring even higher!! I am truly grateful that I found this book, and thankful that with this knowledge I have no limits!!
