Seattle, WAAwakening more and more every day by the power of positive thinking... :)
For as long as either of us can remember, my husband and I have struggled financially. As children, both of our parents struggled with money, finances, bills, etc. And, after we met, we seemed to carry on that same path – never having quite enough to make ends meet, etc. It seemed to be a vicious cycle for both of us.
On Christmas Eve of 2007, I discovered The Secret on On Demand. I had read the book earlier that year, and while I tried to live positively, wasn’t having much success. I had always wanted to see the movie, and was ecstatic to find it available right there on our TV – just waiting to be ordered. I begged my husband to sit down and watch it with me, and he (thankfully) did. What I couldn’t get from the book, I got in spades from the movie. Even my husband was impressed. 🙂
Since that day, I’ve purchased the movie and watch it any time I feel the need for a “pick-me-up.” Both my husband and I have abandoned our negative ways of thinking for more positive, grateful vibes. I carry a gratitude rock, and go over every day how grateful I am for all the good in my life.
Yesterday, however, is where things really took a turn. It had been a pretty hectic week, and both my husband and I were feeling a bit down. (Yes, we still have our moments – although we’re working on them.) The day before (Friday) I knew we needed some good news, so I kept repeating to myself, “I’m so grateful for the good news we received today. I’m so grateful…” Well, nothing happened. Then today (Saturday), we were driving home after a long day, and I suggested to my husband that we should really check the mail. I said that I had a good feeling, there might be a check, yada, yada. He, of course, laughed and said, “Yeah, who would be sending us a check?” But he stopped, got our mail, and I watched his jaw drop as he pulled out an envelope from his former employer. (That employer laid off half the company over a year and a half ago due to bankruptcy issues.) Turns out, my husband was entitled to severance pay and they finally sent it out. After taxes, fees, etc, it amounted to $696 – a fraction of what his monthly checks were, but still… ($696 is $696! We weren’t complaining!). He looked at me, and I swear I’ve never seen his eyes so big. “Oh. My. God,” he said. To which I laughingly said, “See, I told you, I had a feeling… I asked for this yesterday.”
Now, I have to write and say that I’m so grateful for Rhonda Byrne and all the wonderful teachers of The Secret for bringing the awesome power of The Law of Attraction to the world’s attention. This really is just the beginning – for everyone. 🙂
