Winning Thoughtlessly

Ok, so I have graduated from 2 handling classes (for showing dogs), my puppy was finally growing out of the awkward stage enough to show, and I finally felt confident enough to at least get the job done whether we won or not. I had entered him in a show before learning of The Secret. I had only a mere month of practicing the power of intention. My mind was everywhere at once so I only had the time to concentrate on what my goal would be right before bed. I originally just wanted to get through the routine without falling. But at the last minute I thought, I’m better than that! I deserve to win something! Honestly, the breed I am in doesn’t really win until they are at least 1 year because their muscle mass doesn’t mature until then. So I had the brief thought that maybe 2nd place in our puppy class (9 to 12 months) would be feasible. It was brief but the simple thought made me happy.
What happened? My first show ever as a handler, and my pup’s first, we got 2nd in our class. So that night ~ as it was a 2 day show – I threw it all to the wind and said.. “First”. We WILL win first. Sure enough we did! Keep in mind our competition was a top breeder/judge of shows and the handler of the same pup was an actual professional. With the politics that prevail in the show world that is a pretty darn good goal. I had people coming up to me afterward wondering why they’d never met me before. Apparently thinking that I was a breeder or handler. When I told them this was our first/second time in the ring, they were all shocked!
