Meeting Celine Dion!
Submitted by: Laura C
Northern IrelandI'm a single mother of one little boy. He has autism and ADHD and keeps me on my toes with his never-ending zest for life and learning.
I have loved Celine Dion from the beginning and always dreamt of going to her concert sometime. I love to sing myself and I have always felt she was a mentor to me, even though she doesn’t know me. I consider her the master of singing. She can’t be topped.
When I turned 21 my parents bought me tickets to go to her concert in Northern Ireland for my birthday, but at the last minute, Celine had to cancel because her husband had taken sick with throat cancer. I was sad not to see my dream realised to go to her concert but knew she had much more important things going on in her life to deal with.
Years passed and I never got the chance to visit her in Las Vegas, though I often looked up the trip online to see how much it would cost. My partner at the time didn’t really like flying so he wasn’t that fussed on travelling that far. This led me to 2019, when Celine was headlining the Hyde Park concert in London, her only one that year in the UK. I said I have to be there. I bought 2 tickets to go, one for me and one for my sister in law as she loves her too. We had a brilliant summer weekend in London, met with friends and went to the concert. Josh Groban was also playing, my second favourite singer, making it too good to miss!
It was a magical concert with beautiful weather and sunset with thousands attending. I sang along to every word of every song and got as close to the front as I could. Everyone just loved it. She made the long wait to see her so worth it, an unforgettable night. I don’t know why but I honestly feel like Celine is a friend and I understand her and feel like we could be friends in real life sometime.
Anyway, when it was over the crowd left, singing her songs on the way.
The next day was the day we were to go home but we wanted to do a bit of sightseeing in central London. At first, we were going to get the tube, but something made us just stand out and get the bus in from our hotel close to Hyde Park. It drove down the road and we chatted about the concert. Next thing we pass is a nice hotel and I see a crowd. I ask what hotel Celine was staying at as someone had mentioned it at the concert and that was it, the exact one! We grabbed our things, got off at the next stop, ran down to join the crowd and waited. We waited for almost 3 hours. I had said we would wait another 30 minutes and then we would have to go.
Then the miracle happened! I got to see my lifelong favourite singer about 2 metres from me. She spoke and waved at us. It was magical.
After waiting 20 years, not only did I get to go to the best concert of my life but also got to see Celine up close and hear her and wave to her. I know I manifested it to happen because I just knew I wanted to see her in person. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll be dear friends.
